Sammamish Rotary Store Front Drive

On Saturday, May 18th, the Sammamish Rotary set-up a booth outside each of the Sammamish Safeway entrances to collect new store-bought high-needs items. As shoppers entered Safeway, they were handed a shopping list of items that could purchase while shopping, and drop-off on their way out.

The Sammamish Rotary collected over $4,200 worth of in-kind goods during a five hour period!  Donations included:

  • Over 2,500 diapers
  • Almost 100 packages of wipes
  • 72 cans of formula
  • More than 24 containers of baby shampoo
  • New baby bottles, pacifiers, diaper cream, toothpaste, baby powder
  • Baby equipment such as strollers, car seats, booster chairs and Pack ‘N Plays
  • Plus much, much, more!

Thank-you so much to the Sammamish Rotary for coordinating this amazing donation collection event!

GiveBIG is May 15th!

clip_image002Wednesday, May 15th is going to be one of the largest giving days in King County history and Eastside Baby Corner is excited to be a part of it! On Wednesday, May 15th from midnight – midnight, any donations you make to Eastside Baby Corner through our page on The Seattle Foundation website will be proportionally matched! By giving during GiveBIG, you will be stretching your donation and helping even more kids thrive by keeping them fed, warm, and safe.

Last year you gave generously, contributing an astonishing $10,080 in just one day! With careful use of your gifts, EBC stretched that money to provide 20,000 diaper changes, keep 85 toddlers and school kids secure in new car seats, and supplied safe beds for 50 babies. Thank you!

When you donate to EBC during the GiveBIG event, your gift will go even farther to help local children living without adequate shelter, food, or clothing.

About GiveBIG: GiveBIG is a community-wide giving challenge created by The Seattle Foundation that will increase the size of your donation to Eastside Baby Corner. Now in its 3nd year, this one-day, online charitable giving event will rally together our community on behalf of the amazing non-profit organizations in King County.

Win a Golden Ticket! Throughout GiveBIG, donors will be chosen at random from all donations made up to the time of the drawing. The winner will have an additional $1,000 given in their name to Eastside Baby Corner! Plus other fun prizes!

Volunteer GROUPS

Welcome to Day 3 of National Volunteer Appreciation Week!

If you missed out on Monday’s introduction to National Volunteer Appreciation Week, make sure you pop over and check it out HERE.  Yesterday, we discussed community volunteers; if you missed that post make sure you check it out HERE.

Each month Eastside Baby Corner welcomes a number of groups through the hub doors.  These groups range from corporate groups, girl, boy and cub scout troops, school groups and many different churches.  We love getting groups in to volunteer because they bring great camaraderie and fun to the volunteer shift!

Unlike our community volunteers who mainly sort and organize the clothing donations, our groups that come in often get a special project!  Recent favorites include: reorganizing our clothing inventory, cleaning out storage units, checking and labeling expiration dates on baby food, moving inventory and much, much more!

As was mentioned yesterday for safety and task accuracy reasons, we cannot have children under the age of 7 working in the warehouse.  (Remember 7-13 with direct adult supervision and 14+ can come alone!).  However, that doesn’t mean we don’t have special projects for them to do at home and then bring us their final product!

For instance, we get a lot of Daisy and Brownie Girl Scout Troops who want to volunteer at EBC, but because they’re too young they often either host a community drive or put together hair accessories or toothbrush & toothpaste kits.  We will welcome the younger kids into the warehouse to deliver their goods and for a tour!  So if you have a younger one who is interested in helping at EBC, you might think about one of these ideas!
